DX & Contest Station - Merritt Island, Florida USA

Station Information & Equipment

First built in 2003, the station has been continously upgraded, and started from very humble beginnings with a single Yaesu FT-920 and short G5RV antenna in the attic.

A few years later, a dedicated room for "The Shack" was made. Located in a barn on the property, it allows a place that is away from noise sources and has room for expansion.

In the fall of 2008, a Rohn BX40 tower was installed on the property. A Hy-Gain Explorer-14 was erected at 40 feet on the top of the tower.

In October 2010, the Explorer-14 was upgraded to a Hy-Gain TH7-DX beam. The TH-7DX offers superior gain and front-to-back ratio with 7 elements. The beam has also been upgraded with a DX Engineering balun.

A major station upgrade was completed in April 2013. The Yaesu FT-920 and Elecraft K3 is fully integrated for DX and contest use with computer logging, CW, and RTTY. The new station also has an L-shaped operating desk which allows for more operating space and a simpler layout.
